Drawing Cicada

Step 1

To start this guide on drawing a cicada, we will start with the head and front legs of the insect. This representation of a cicada will be very close, which means that there will be many details and small sections wrapped in this image. It is why we will take you slowly when we divide you into smaller steps in this guide!

Start using curved lines to create a thin, flat shape for the cicada head. There will also be two relatively large round eyes on each side of the head. Add the first small section of the body under the head so we can add some line details inside.

The front legs of the cicada will be quite thin and composed of some smaller sections. When the legs are drawn, we will go towards step 2!

Step 2

We will add a lot to the insect in this second stage of your cicada design! First, let’s add the main wings section. These wings will start with small round shapes on the two edges of the body under the insect head. They will be very thin at the base but wider and more rounded when you go down.

They will also have details of the winding line, and we will see the body between them. Finish drawing four other thin legs. Just like the first, these legs will be designed in various sections.

Step 3

To continue this guide on drawing a cicada, we will add another section to the wings you started in the previous step. Use curved lines to add rounded sections to the wings as they appear in the reference image. Once designed, we will also add round shapes, such as additional details near the ends of the wings.

You can also add sections of the body below and between the wings using curved lines. Then you will be ready for Guide Step 4!

Step 4

The wings of a cicada are quite thin and transparent, which means that the body will be visible under them. We will use curved lines to represent the thin sections that make up the central part of the body and extend to the tip of the abdomen.

With these designed body details, you can prepare to add final details to the next step in the guide!

Step 5

Now you are ready to finish the final details while we are going to the fifth stage of this guide on how to draw a cicada. These details will be focused mainly on the rear area, which is just below the head. You can use wind lines to draw these details as they appear in our example. Once you finish these final details, you can also add your elements!

You can draw a background to show the environment of this insect or even add more insects to accompany it. These are just some ideas among many people you could choose when you draw to finish this.

Cicada

Step 6

The cicada is not exactly the most colorful insect you will find in real life. In our example of an image for this cicada drawing, we think of this fact, keeping the colors a little more terrible and stupid. We use different tones of light vegetables and dark green for the different details and sections of the insect.

We use much clearer shades for areas under the wings because it gives the illusion of transparent wings. You can opt for a silent color approach by coloring your illustrations, but you should also feel comfortable using all the other colors you like!

There is also the issue of selecting art means you will use to finish the colors. What will you choose to finish this image?
